Last Arrival Tarot Project[]

In the RP, the character Alyss uses Tarot cards to tell characters their futures...sometimes she's right, sometimes she's wrong, but the readings are ALWAYS interesting. As the story progresses, she creates new cards, each based on people and places she experiences in the City.

Anna Shepard's mun (aka Jenny) is illustrating the cards using traditional and modern symbolism. Eventually, once the Major Arcana are filled in, we may be able to print a deck or two for real-world use. Some characters may appear on more than one card, but we will make sure every PLAYER has at least one character with a card all to themselves. Jenny will attempt to accommodate every character if possible. (This assumes we don't top 78 players/characters!)

In the table below, Jenny will update her progress with her sketches and eventually the final versions of the cards. Some cards will not be revealed until later in the game due to spoiler content. Players are asked NOT to discuss cards that have yet to be revealed. Questions, however, can be directed to Jenny, Drakon, or Jynx.

About the Tarot[]

A VERY Basic Overview[]

The Tarot is, traditionally, a series of 78 cards used for fortune-telling, self-improvement, and guidance. The deck is divided into two parts, the Major Arcana and Minor Arcana, which can be used together or independently. Depending on the type of reading, cards are drawn face-down, then arranged and interpreted by the reader. The positioning of the cards can be significant as can the orientation of the card (is the image right-side-up or upside-down?).

The Major Arcana consists of 22 cards numbered 0-21 and each represents a particular theme or concept. These cards do not belong to any suit. The cards shown in movies are usually Major Arcana, because of their unique and sometimes foreboding imagery. However, every card in the Tarot has a positive as well as a negative interpretation. "Death" is often cited as a card meaning, well, "death", but in fact it represents change, a cycle, and a new outlook.

The Minor Arcana contains the remaining 56 cards. There are four suits, analogous to the suits of traditional playing cards. The suits traditionally are:

  • Wands (or Staves), aka Clubs
  • Cups, aka Hearts
  • Coins (or Pentacles), aka Diamonds
  • Swords, aka Spades

The suits are each numbered Ace - 10, with four 'face' cards, where playing cards have only three. The Tarot face cards are Page, Knight, Queen, and King. Unlike the Major Arcana, the Minor cards tend to portray emotions, scenarios, and in the case of the face cards, human archetypes. However, like the Major Arcana, the positioning and orientation affect how the concept is interpreted.
